The book is a nicely written, comprehensive introduction to coding theory. I really appreciate the fact that the volume seems intended not just as a textbook for a first course in coding theory, but rather as a book that can be used in several courses . This page was last updated on Febru , by Robert H. Morelos-Zaragoza.

If you want a comprehensive and mathematical approach then Error-Correcting Codes by W. Wesley Peterson is recommended. For a more general and short but still mathematical introduction try: A First Course in Coding Theory by Raymond Hill. See the sidebar for links to both books. Related Articles. Information Theory. Claude Shannon. Coding theory. Many practical error-correcting codes used today are examples of so-calledlinear codes, sometimes called linear block codes, a concept to be defined inthe first section. Among the benefits of linearity are simple, fast, and easy-to-analyze encoding and decoding algorithms, which will be the subject of thenext two sections.

In this chapter we prove two of the most remarkable results in all of coding theory. The first, due to Mrs. F.J. MacWilliams, says that the weigth enumeration of the dual code C ┴ is completely determined just by the weight enumerator of C. The second result, due to A.M. Gleason, states that the weight enumerator of any self-dual code (in which the weigth of any Author: N. J. A. Sloane.

This is a good, well-structured book for a first course in error-correcting codes, for an undergraduate who has had linear algebra and either has had a little bit of number theory / basic discrete math, or is comfortable picking the basics up on the fly.

This course introduces students to iterative decoding algorithms and the codes to which they are applied, including Turbo Codes, Low-Density Parity-Check Codes, and Serially-Concatenated Codes.

The course will begin with an introduction to the fundamental problems of Coding Theory and their mathematical formulations. This will be followed by a study of Belief Propagation--the.

Software for error-correcting codes. Simulating the behaviour of error-correcting codes (ECCs) in software is a common practice to design, validate and improve ECCs. The upcoming wireless 5G standard raises a new range of applications for the software ECCs: the Cloud Radio Access Networks (C-RAN) in a Software-defined radio (SDR) context.

The. A Course in Algebraic Error-Correcting Codes suits an interdisciplinary audience at the Masters level, including students of mathematics, engineering, physics, and computer science. Advanced undergraduates will find this a useful resource as well. This book discusses both the theory and practical applications of self-correcting data, commonly known as error-correcting codes.

The applications included demonstrate the importance of these codes in a wide range of everyday technologies, from smartphones to secure communications and transactions. Short Course on Polar Codes (1 of 4) Wednesday, Septem - pm to pm. Event Calendar Category. Other LIDS Events. Speaker Name.

Error-Correcting Codes noiseproof codes, codes that detect and correct errors, that is, codes that can, because of redundancy in the code combination, detect and correct errors that result in incorrect or forbidden combinations.

Such codes are employed for the transmission and processing of information in computer technology, telegraphy, remote control. Don't be fooled by the small size of the book or the "a mathematical introduction" in the title.
